Passing an SEO audit is not the same as being visible to AI
Here is the situation that explains why this page exists. A site scores well in a Semrush or Ahrefs site audit. Crawlable, fast, clean canonicals, valid robots.txt, healthy sitemap, no broken links. By every measure the platform reports, the technical foundation is sound.
The same site returns nothing when someone asks an AI assistant about its category. Not a lower ranking, absent. Because GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot are disallowed, by a rule nobody remembers writing, or by a security preset applied at the edge.
No part of that audit was wrong. The robots.txt is valid. A valid file that blocks the crawlers you wanted is still valid. Validity and intent are different properties, and only one of them was being measured.
What the AI layer adds
The AI answer channel has requirements that overlap with SEO but are not identical:
- Access, per bot. Not "is robots.txt valid" but "what happens when this specific crawler requests this specific path". Different operators run different bots for different purposes, and a single verdict cannot represent them.

- Citability. Whether a page can be quoted as an answer: clear claims, structure an extractor can follow, entities named explicitly rather than implied by context.
- Purpose separation. Allowing crawlers that might cite you while refusing crawlers that only train on you. This is a policy decision, and it requires knowing which is which.
We are not suggesting you cancel anything
It would be convenient to argue that a free tool replaces a paid platform. It does not, and claiming so would discredit everything else on this page.
Backlink indexes, keyword databases and rank tracking histories are expensive to build and maintain, which is exactly why they are subscription products. There is no free equivalent and this tool is not attempting to be one. Search still sends most organic traffic for most sites, and the platforms that measure search remain worth their cost.
How to combine them in practice
- Keep the SEO platform doing what it is good at. Keywords, links, rankings, technical crawls.
